Miranda “keep a byline” Perez is a nationally published journalist and public relations specialist with a written portfolio reaching millions of readers. Beyond her work in media, she is a startup enthusiast, HBCU Advocate, tech DEI leader, digital marketer, and business strategist.

Miranda is a Program Coordinator at the HBCU Founders Initiative, a national nonprofit organization that has supported over 1,200 Historically Black College/University (HBCU) students and alumni to launch and scale tech startups. To date, HBCUFI program alumni have gone on to raise over $2 million in funding for their ventures.

At HBCUFI, Miranda organizes the largest HBCU-centered pre-accelerator in the country. In her role, she spearheads curriculum development and executes hybrid eight-week pre-accelerator programs across 15 HBCU campuses, mentoring cohorts of 100+ startup founders at a time.

She also leads public relations efforts and brand strategy for HBCUFI’s social channels.

Her media strategy work has landed HBCUFI press in: Forbes, Black Enterprise, AfroTech, Insight Into Diversity, and more.

Hailing from humble beginnings as an inner-city Chicago youth, who was impacted by mass incarceration and gang violence, Miranda is a trailblazer as a first-generation college graduate, who is the eldest of six siblings.

Education holds paramount importance in her life. She is a proud HBCU graduate, committed to her alma mater Clark Atlanta University. There, she obtained a B.A. in Mass Media Arts, which fuels her ongoing journalism career. As a reporter, she’s covered venture capital and startups (with a focus on DEI) at premiere publications such as The Guardian, Built In, Business Insider, and The American City Business Journals.

After studying and reporting on the systemic adversities faced by marginalized founders, she decided to leave full-time news in 2022 to work hands-on with and mentor early-stage startup founders. Since then, Miranda’s work at HBCUFI has allowed the organization to more than double its programmatic impact across campuses and founders nationwide.

As an active independent journalist, Miranda writes about business, tech, culture, politics, fashion, and entertainment. She also hosts live and pre-recorded interviews on breaking news and cultural trends.

Miranda’s objective spirit and bright energy allow her to be a source of comfort and warmth to whoever she works with. Outside of being an emerging media and tech mogul, she's a coffee addict, avid reader, social butterfly, and lover of all things fashion.

Always open for work or for a great conversation.
